‘Energy for Business’ scheme helps local businesses make the low-carbon leap

A project which helps local businesses that want to develop low-carbon solutions, has been awarded funding to support SMEs in the region for another three years.

SSW - Skills Support for the Workforce

Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) is Serco’s Employment, Skills & Enterprise business across the D2N2 region. Under the 28-month programme which launched in April, Serco will work in partnership with the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to provide skills development that focuses on upskilling employees in key priority sectors as identified in the LEP’s strategic economic plan: 

  • Transport Equipment Manufacturing
  • Life Sciences
  • Food & Drink Manufacturing
  • Visitor Economy
  • Low Carbon
  • Transport & Logistics
  • Creative & Digital Industries
  • Construction

 

Through SSW, eligible businesses can benefit from funded training, tailored to their specific needs. Training is flexible and businesses can select full qualifications or mix and match individual units that are directly relevant to their work. Previous SSW programme participants have benefited from increased employee confidence, motivation and productivity and improved employee loyalty and retention.

What's on offer 

  • A training needs analysis for your business, identifying the skills you need to support your business ambitions
  • Flexible training – pick full qualifications or mix and match individual units to suit your business
  • On-the-job vocational training to meet individual and business needs including taught learning, workplace assessment, distance learning and online learning
  • Learning pathways for your employees enabling them to progress within your organisation onto higher level qualifications or apprenticeships
  • Recognised accredited qualifications and training courses to enhance your employees’ skills

Who's it for? 

SSW focuses on small and medium sized businesses (less than 250 employees) based in Nottingham or Nottinghamshire.


Individuals taking up funded training through SSW must be:

  • Legally resident in the UK
  • Able to take paid employment in the UK
  • Employed or self-employed
  • Aged 16 or above
