Winners will compete on national stage following regional success

Following their success in the East Midlands Chamber’s* 2018 business awards, four members have gone on to win regional awards in the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) competition.

Bus company trentbarton, which won both the Business of the Year and Customer Commitment categories at this month’s East Midlands Chamber Derbyshire Business Awards, scooped the BCC’s regional Customer Commitment Award.

Nationally renowned for its innovation, Heanor-based trentbarton is admired throughout the UK passenger transport sector as probably the most innovative bus company in the country – a reputation built on decades of focusing on its customer experience.

It has invested in technology to communicate dynamically with customers and in staff training to ensure the continued helpfulness of its drivers.

Regional solicitor Mazars sponsored the East Midlands Chamber Business of the Year Award. Proftech Talent, which has its headquarters in Tamworth, Staffordshire, sponsored the Derbyshire Customer Commitment Award.

A second company to pick a BCC regional accolade is Derby-based Tidyco.

Tidyco won the East Midlands Chamber Excellence in International Trade Award for Derbyshire, sponsored by DHL, and is now a finalist in the BCC Export Business of the Year category.

The Derby-based company manufactures hydraulic and pneumatic solutions for all major rail original equipment manufacturers and maintenance facilities, including flexible hoses, rigid pipework and brake/hydrostatic kits plus heating, ventilation and air-conditioning products and services.

A third Derbyshire organisation to win a BCC regional award is Shirebrook Academy, which took top honours in the East Midlands Chamber Education and Business Partnership category, sponsored by Derbyshire Education and Business Partnership.

Shirebrook Academy is a publicly-funded independent school for 11- to 16-year-olds, specialising in science and construction. It offers a confident and caring environment to equip students for life in the future and give them opportunities to grow in confidence.

The fourth East Midlands Chamber member to win a BCC regional award is Loughborough-based Dalycom, which won the Leicestershire Employer of the Year Award, sponsored by the De Montfort University Castle Business School.

Dalycom - which provides business communications and IT services including telephone systems, broadband, calls, lines, mobiles, CCTV, hosted telephony and IT solutions, wireless access points and support – is shortlisted for the BCC’s Employer of the Year Award.

The regional awards winners will go on to compete for the BCC’s national awards, the winners of which will be announced at a gala dinner at Tobacco Dock, London, on 29 November, at which the finalists will be guests of East Midlands Chamber.

They will also be invited to attend the annual general meeting of East Midlands Chamber, on Wednesday 7 November, at Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, to receive certificates commemorating their regional success.

Scott Knowles, Chief Executive at East Midlands Chamber, said: “Congratulations to all four members for going on to achieve further success in the BCC’s regional awards.

“The Chamber awards are the only business awards delivered purely by business for business and are also the only awards which offer the winners the chance to succeed on a national stage.

“We wish all four companies the very best of luck as they go on to represent the East Midlands at the national BCC awards.”

Announcing the regional winners this morning (Monday), Francis Martin, President at the British Chambers of Commerce, said: “Businesses are the engines of the UK economy – creating opportunities and prosperity in our towns, cities and counties. Even in these turbulent times, they continue to show their adaptability, resilience and strength.

“Every year our judges are impressed by the calibre of entries, and this year was no different. All our finalists should be proud to reach this stage given the stiff competition among our diverse and enterprising pool of applicants.

“The Chamber Business Awards are the perfect opportunity for us to celebrate our business communities’ achievements, to take stock of the great performances of UK businesses over the past year, and to encourage and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.”
