Showcase Your Industry to Young People

Futures Advice, Skills and Employment are a social enterprise based in Nottingham providing jobs and skills advice, training and apprenticeships to support young people and adults into work or training. We are jointly owned by Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council. We deliver projects and administer funding within local communities and operate the National Careers Service across the East Midlands and Eastern England and our partnership with Nottingham Jobs further strengthens the relationship we have with Nottingham City Council and the Department for Work and Pensions.

Working in partnership with The Edge Foundation, we are delivering the Give yourself ‘The Edge’ event being held on Wednesday 21st June 2017 at the Harvey Hadden Sports Village, Nottingham, NG8 4PB.

The event will be attended by up to 1000 Year 7 learners (11-12 year olds) from schools across Nottingham City with the objective being to raise aspirations, increase motivation and build awareness of careers in the following key priority sectors in the D2N2 LEP area:
• Transport Equipment Manufacturing
• Life Sciences
• Food and Drink Manufacturing
• Construction
• Visitor Economy
• Low Carbon – Goods / services
• Transport and Logistics
• Creative Industries
• Health and Social Care
• STEM related industries

We hope that this event will also allow learners to make more informed decisions when choosing their options and learn about the skills and experiences needed to succeed in the world of work.

We are keen to find employers who can contribute to the event by show-casing their industry / sector through delivery of a practical, engaging workshop that will inspire young learners. Ideally, all workshops will run for 15 minutes (repeated several times throughout the day), allowing learners to try something new whilst learning about a relevant career pathway and/or sector. The central focus of the Give yourself the Edge event is that the activity must be engaging, practical and the students can get hands-on. It isn’t a traditional careers fair where employers attend with a stand and leaflets, therefore all partners will prepare something where the young people are actively engaged.

We wish to promote the 10 economic sectors that are key to the city’s future prosperity but recognise the aim of the event is to raise student awareness and aspirations therefore we would welcome employers whose specialism covers more than one specific sector.
