Reflecting on Manufacturing in the East Midlands in 2024

As we move through the start of 2025, Made Smarter East Midlands reflect on and celebrate a remarkable year for manufacturing in the East Midlands in 2024.

Contributing approximately £24.7b to the economy and employing around 450,000 people, the region’s manufacturing sector has embraced significant innovation and digital transformation. With over 300 businesses engaging with the Made Smarter East Midlands programme, the year has been defined by growth, resilience, and adaptability.

The programme's success is reflected in the increasing adoption of advanced technologies, with 38% of manufacturers integrating digital solutions and 61% planning further investments in 2025. These developments highlight the sector’s commitment to innovation, ensuring the East Midlands remains competitive in an evolving global market.

"2024 has marked a significant shift for manufacturing in the East Midlands. Businesses of various sizes across the region have adopted digital technologies to enhance their efficiency, streamline operations, and build resilience for the future. This year’s progress demonstrates the region’s capacity to innovate and adapt, laying a strong foundation for continued success in 2025.

Our goal is to empower manufacturers with the resources and expertise to succeed in an evolving digital landscape. The strides made this year are just the beginning, and we’re pleased to expand our reach and impact even further in the coming year."
