HL Plastics, the trading company behind the Liniar brand, has been bestowed with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation – the UK’s highest accolade for business success.

For a company that prides itself on innovation, it is a fitting honour that recognises the impact that the Liniar ModLok bi-folding door has had on the fenestration industry.

HL Plastics joins a very select group of UK businesses unveiled to be honoured by Her Majesty The Queen in her prestigious annual awards, announced today on her 91st birthday.

Entrepreneur Roger Hartshorn started his career on the shop floor at HL Plastics and is now CEO. Roger, the creator of the Liniar brand, said: “The Queen’s Award is the ultimate tribute for a business – so to win an award, particularly for innovation, is a massive honour.

“I’m delighted that the Liniar ModLok bi-fold has been recognised for its revolutionary design, with a combined lock and reinforcement exoskeleton which makes it possible for a PVCu bi-fold to act as an aluminium door.

“It’s also a fantastic reflection on the exceptional team we have here and the high standards of the products we have created.

“Winning this award coincides with the official opening of our new 178,000sq ft warehouse and showroom facility, further cementing our commitment to expansion and improvement, as well as being one of the main employers in the region.”

Formed in 1974, HL Plastics designs and manufactures PVCu extrusions at its state-of-the-art factory and mixing plant in Denby, Derbyshire. The company has seen substantial growth in the UK manufacturing sector with its Liniar-branded range of PVCu windows, doors, conservatories and outdoor products.

The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are the highest official awards for British businesses and were established by Royal Warrant in 1965.

The awards are made on the advice of the Prime Minister after examination of applications by an advisory committee composed of leading individuals from industry, commerce, trade unions and Government.

Roger has been invited to attend a reception with Her Majesty The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace, and HL Plastics will be visited during the year by a royal representative to present the physical award of a crystal chalice and scroll.
