Nottingham-based Print Business Wins Environmental Award, thanks to NTU Students

Print 4 Ltd secured 1st place at The Solutions Awards 2019, hosted in London earlier this month.

Print 4 Ltd are a local printing company, committed to the well-being of our planet. They offer a comprehensive suite of print services, digital and much more.

Their materials are sourced via environmentally responsible forestry practices (FSC) and complemented by their vegetable-based inks which are also vegan friendly. The print rooms are fuelled solely by UK-supplied renewable energy, making them one of the only small businesses to implement this, certainly within Nottingham.

Print 4 Ltd are passionate about the brands they print for and suggest to their clients papers and boards that are sustainably produced. Recent work has been produced on recycled denim, recycled bank notes and elephant poo.

The business recently claimed first prize in the “Solutions for the Environment” category at The Solutions Awards 2019. This success came about with the help of a small group of Nottingham Trent University (NTU) students.

In June of 2019, Print 4 Ltd joined forces with NTU on one of their annual Employability initiatives, Grads4Nottm. This NTU-exclusive two-week work experience project focused on graduate retention in the city. A select group of students from a range of academic disciplines temporarily joined Print 4 Ltd to launch a green marketing campaign, with the aim of reflecting the brand’s positive approach towards the environment. Whilst on the project the students pushed the company to enter the awards.

This is not the business’ first piece of recognition when it comes to their environmental commitment via sustainable print solutions. They also boast a seal of excellence from the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) for environmental management, alongside ISO 14001 and 9001 accreditation's, the world’s most recognised environmental and quality management systems. It doesn’t stop there; they also play their part in the national ‘Printers Against Plastics’ mission, they have employees planting trees, and their new flooring choice is made from recycled water bottles and 100% PVC-free fabric.

Matt Boam, Managing Director, said:

Change can come from all of us; commit yourself to positive action right now and help turn the hot tap off on climate change. We all need our planet.

Alongside, their devotion to sustainability, Print 4 Ltd have a strong appetite to support local and national UK charities; they produced the prestigious Christmas Carol brochure for Cancer Research UK’s carol concert, which was held at St. Paul’s Cathedral in December 2019.

Even in an age of digitalisation, it is the print industry which can make a substantial difference to global sustainability goals. It's an industry which must never stop innovating and Print 4 Ltd seem to be one step ahead.
