Businesses in the East Midlands looking for opportunities to trade with firms in China can take the first step on their journey at a ‘matchmaking’ event next week.
The event is taking place as part of a visit of high-profile delegates from Hefei, the capital city of Anhui Province.
They will represent 17 firms operating in property, medical technology, printing, sportswear, agricultural technology, food, engineering, electrical appliances, steel, clothing, construction and tourism sectors.
The B2B Matchmaking Event has been organised by Derby City Council, the Chamber, the China-Britain Business Council and Enterprise Europe Network with support from the Universities of Derby and Nottingham.
Derby and Hefei have developed a strong twinned relationship over many years.
The two cities work together to create mutually beneficial growth and opportunities for businesses.
Hefei has a population of over seven million people and is known for its machinery, electronics, chemistry, steel and textiles industries.
It was named as one of the top 20 emerging cities in China by the Economist and can be reached by high-speed train within a few hours of leaving Shanghai.
The visitors travel to Derby as a part of an official delegation, led by the Hefei Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and Hefei Industry and Commerce Federation.
Over two days, they will enjoy a mixture of business and tourism, visiting some of the many sights of Derby to understand its deep and long industrial heritage.
Laura Howard, the Chamber’s Head of International Trade, said: “Over the years we have encouraged close links with Chinese firms and even led delegations to China to effect introductions.
“As we leave the EU and set up individual trade agreements with countries around the world, partnerships with Chinese companies will gain significance. This event will give local businesses the perfect introduction to potential partners in China.”
The Business Opportunities with Chinese Companies – B2B Matchmaking Event, will take place on 20 October 2017, from 9.30am to 1pm, at Derby Arena.
Interpreters will be provided, as will a buffet lunch.
