Learning how to win public sector contracts

Dozens of smaller firms were given hints on how to win public sector contracts at a summit delivered by the Chamber.

The event, attended by about 40 businesses, was held at The Summit Centre, at Kirkby-in-Ashfield, yetserday, and was staged in partnership with district and county councils, the NHS, Silverlock Tenders and Mansfield & Ashfield 2020.

Its aim was to empower smaller firms with the confidence to bid for available work that is often thought to be beyond their reach.

In a bid to be more transparent with their processes – and to keep expenditure as localised as possible – buyers from the various organisations highlighted where the opportunities could be accessed and gave hints on “the dos and don’ts” of bidding for public sector work.

This helped alleviate some common misconceptions about what the processes entail and showed that local firms can work together as consortia to win contracts.

The attendees also learned how many larger contracts are broken down into smaller lots that often represent lucrative opportunities for those that know where to look for them and how to convey their expertise.

The Chamber hopes that sessions such as this will embolden smaller firms to bid for public work.

Open to all businesses, the Chamber will be holding a similar summit at County Hall, Nottingham on Tuesday 6 March 2018.
