J Tomlinson Moves Towards Zero Carbon with Official Green Services Launch

J Tomlinson has officially launched a range of low carbon services designed to help clients decarbonise their assets and meet their sustainability targets, helping to tackle the global climate crisis.

The refurbishment, engineering and maintenance services provider, which primarily operates across the Midlands, Yorkshire and Northern and Central England, has been in working partnership with organisations of all sizes and specialities (including social housing, local government, blue light, healthcare, extra care, and light industrial) to help them future-proof new and existing buildings from the inside out.

From auditing and consultancy to installation and ongoing support, J Tomlinson’s team of in-house experts specialise in helping clients identify and deliver low carbon and sustainable energy  solutions, including Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging, Solar PV and battery storage, air and ground source heat pumps, smart lighting and smart buildings.

A recent increase in government funding and incentives have been introduced to accelerate and encourage the adoption of low carbon technologies across the private, public and social housing sectors, with J Tomlinson's expert team able to advise clients on how to access regional and national funding, enabling low carbon projects to be undertaken at little or no upfront cost.
Darroch Baker, director at J Tomlinson, said:  “At J Tomlinson, we work with many environmentally conscious organisations who want to reduce their carbon emissions and environmental impact, but they’re not quite sure what steps they need to take to get there, the technologies available, or where to access best advice or funding opportunities.

“According to the carbon brief analysis, the UK’s carbon emissions fell by 2.9% in 2019 – the most significant reduction our country has experienced for over 30 years. We are committed to helping this number fall even further by partnering with like-minded organisations to help them identify new and/or retrofit low carbon opportunities and future-proof their assets, and are very excited to launch our range of services to help our client’s meet their goals and tackle the global climate crisis.

As well as providing access to funding opportunities, J Tomlinson is also a member of several key industry frameworks dedicated to helping clients across all a wide range of sectors - including healthcare, social housing, education and emergency services – providing an easy and compliant procurement route to enable the implementation of low carbon building solutions.”

Over the last year, the company has undertaken several award-winning low carbon new-build and retrofit schemes, including the replacement of inefficient, high-cost storage heating across a Bromford-managed sheltered social housing scheme in Solihull, West Midlands, which is saving over 130kg of carbon emissions per year and helping residents save up to 40% on their heating bills.

The scheme scooped National Renewable Heating Project of the Year at the National Energy Efficiency Awards 2019 due to its environmental benefits and contribution to tackling fuel poverty – J Tomlinson’s first national award.

In addition, a new-build industrial development at Airfield Business Park, which saw J Tomlinson commission and install 692 solar panels to brand new high-spec steel frame industrial units constructed by the company on behalf of Leicestershire County Council, was announced Large Scale Project of the Year at the East Midlands Energy Efficiency Awards 2020. The scheme, which features Passive infrared sensor (PIR) LED motion lighting throughout, is estimated to save the Council 79 tonnes of CO2 emissions in its first year.

Founded in the 1950s, J Tomlinson provides a range of sustainable building solutions including refurbishment, repairs and maintenance, engineering services, extra care construction, renewable energy, and facilities management. The Nottingham-based company, which works primarily across the Midlands, Yorkshire and Northern and Central England, works across a range of key sectors including healthcare, extra care, blue light, social housing and local government.
