International Women’s Day 2021

Monday the 8th of March marks International Women’s Day 2021 for which the D2N2 Growth Hub proudly supports. International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

Over the past year the Growth Hub has been involved in several initiatives aimed at supporting female led businesses which includes:

  • Ongoing support for female led businesses throughout the D2N2 area which can be evidenced through our case studies, one example being Heal Her Retreats
  • Partnering with Facebook's National #SheMeansBusiness campaign which supported female led businesses in creating Facebook Ads.
  • Running a successful female-led High Growth cohort as part of the Peer Network Programme for which feedback so far has been excellent.
  • The Women in Leadership online webinar series in 2020 - These webinars ran from June to August and attracted 322 bookings with some excellent delegate feedback: "The last session was my favourite of the Women in Leadership sessions, the tips at the end really resonated with me.."

Dawn Edwards, MD of Challenge Consulting who lead on the Women in Leadership webinars said:

"It was a privilege to deliver the Women in Leadership seminars on behalf of D2N2 which were aptly titled Grit and Grace.  Women in business have so much to contribute to organisations yet are still under represented in Board rooms and make up only one in three of business start ups.   International Women’s day is an opportunity to showcase success stories, highlight role models and to value the contributions all women play in society, in order to build strong foundations for the female leaders of the future."

Maria Peggs, Facilitator of the female led Peer Network cohort said:

“I think International Women’s Day offers us all the opportunity to reach out and support, celebrate and recognise the amazing talents that women bring to business and to entrepreneurship.  From leading the Women in Leadership Peer to Peer Network I’ve seen the quality and expertise in the room from the women who are taking part.  I’ve listened to the feedback shared and the actions participants have already taken and how that action has positively impacted their businesses.  To know I’m facilitating this Network and playing my own small part in building this community is amazing and humbling in equal measure.  It’s reminded me, yet again, of the sheer talent and ambition that’s out there as well as the willingness to help, support and share too."

The Growth Hub continues to champion the work of female entrepreneurs such as Rachel Hayward, founder of Ask the Chameleon Ltd who was named as one of the UKs most inspirational female entrepreneurs by Small Business Britain’s f:Entrepreneur ‘#ialso100’ campaign. Rachel was showcased alongside 100 female entrepreneurs from across the UK, as part of the campaign’s recognition of the multi-achievements of women that have proved critical to society during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rachel said:

“I am so proud and honored to be part of an amazing group of female national entrepreneurs, who always go above and beyond for their teams, clients and business communities.  I’d like to share this award with all the women who have supported me in my own business, without them in this year in particular, life would have been very challenging.”

The Growth Hub will also be marking the day by supporting the East Midlands Chamber in a virtual Celebration of International Women’s Day event: http://bit.ly/3qinfp0
