Chance to shape future immigration policies

Posted on October 12th, 2017

Businesses are being given a chance to help shape future immigration policies.

In July, the Government commissioned the Migration Advisory Service to advise on the economic and social impacts of the UK’s exit from the European Union.

It was also tasked with recommending how the UK’s immigration system should be aligned with a modern industrial strategy.

As part of its information gathering, the MAC, in conjunction with the Chamber, will be holding an event in Nottingham next week to seek views and evidence from those with an interest, expertise or experience in or relevant knowledge of immigration, to inform its response to Government.

The MAC wants views from a wide range of interested parties from all parts of the East Midlands, including businesses, employers, recruiters, trade unions, academics, think tanks, representative bodies, Government departments and more.

There will be particular interest paid to the future impact on international migrant workers, particularly those from the UK working in the EU and EU nationals working in the UK.

Ian Bates, the Chamber’s Forums Manager, said: “The MAC consultation ends on 27 October so this event is one of the last chances that the people most likely to be affected by future immigration policies will have to express their opinions.

“It is, therefore, essential that as many people as possible attend the event so that the MAC is fully apprised of public opinion and what future hopes and expectations are.”
