A free event aimed at highlighting how local firms can benefit from having high speed broadband and how they can apply for grant funding to offset connection costs takes place in Chesterfield later this month.

The seminar, which is being held at Chesterfield FC’s Proact Stadium, between 8am and 11am on 22 May, will provide essential information to help businesses make an informed decision about adopting or migrating to superfast broadband technologies.

It will also explain the Government’s Broadband Connection Voucher Scheme, a £40m initiative aimed at getting more firms online. Under the scheme, which is active in 50 cities across the UK including Derby and Chesterfield, companies – or in some cases, groups of businesses – can apply for a connection voucher of up to £3,000 for faster, better broadband.

The event is being supported by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and delivered by the eBusiness Club, a specialist department of the East Midlands Chamber (Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire) which has a long track record of delivering ICT and broadband-related projects across the region.

The packed agenda aims to give delegates an understanding of:

  • The latest available broadband technologies
  • Typical business usages of high speed broadband
  • How to discover which broadband technologies are available in their area
  • Government grants to boost broadband
  • How to apply for a connection voucher
  • Hints and tips on how to influence grant applications

eBusiness Club Manager Jon Egley said: “Fast and reliable broadband has never been more important for business in today’s increasingly global economy. From the smallest SMEs to the largest multinationals, a speedy internet connection is key to trading not only in the UK, but on the international stage.

“This event is one in a series of seminars across the region aimed at increasing awareness among local firms about what the latest broadband technology looks like and what is available in their area, along with practical guidance and assistance in applying for Government funding to cover the cost of connecting to the high speed broadband network.”
