Finalists announced for Chamber's Enterprising Women awards

Finalists have been announced in the annual quest to find the most successful and inspirational business women in the East Midlands.

The top 35 candidates have been picked from dozens of nominations for this year’s Enterprising Women awards.

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner on International Women’s Day, 8 March, at the Derbyshire County Cricket Club, Derby.

There are seven awards to be won this year: Business Woman of the Year (sponsored by Pick Everard), the Social Commitment Award (Hastings Direct), Apprentice of the Year (Derby College), Female Employee of the Year (Smallman and Sons), Female Entrepreneur of the Year (Leicester Racecourse), Team of the Year (Leicester Tigers) and Small Business of the Year (The Belmont Hotel).

Co-Chair of Enterprising Women, Eileen Richards, founder of ER Recruitment, Leicester, and a member of the Board of Directors at East Midlands Chamber, said: “Once again, the standard of entries has been very high this year.

“I think there is a real hunger among women in the business community to be recognised for their achievements and these awards are one of the best ways to achieve that recognition.”

Co-Chair Jean Mountain, a Past President at East Midlands Chamber, said: “By highlighting their contribution and telling their stories, hopefully we can inspire other women to pursue their business dream.”

Duncan Green, Managing Partner at Pick Everard, said: “Pick Everard is delighted to be the headline sponsor again of the Enterprising Women Awards, which is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the success of women across the East Midlands.

“We are bucking the national trend with over 27% of our workforce being women, compared to just 11% in the property, construction and infrastructure sector.

“Like a number of industries, ours is already held back by a skills shortage and would benefit substantially from more females developing a career in the sector. We’re proactively working to readdress the balance, from providing STEM ambassadors at schools to promoting nationally the role of women in engineering and construction.”
