Entrepreneurs to showcase talent and compete for cash prizes at Venturefest East Midlands

Entrepreneurs from across the region are being given the opportunity to launch their ideas and start-up businesses to an influential audience, with Venturefest East Midlands’ Next Generation Zone. Entrants will also be competing for prize money, as the public and attendees at the event on 14 April will cast the deciding votes via the Venturefest East Midlands official app.

The Next Generation Zone, run in conjunction with De Montfort University, Nottingham Trent University, University of Derby, University of Leicester and University of Nottingham aims to encourage innovative and creative business development by entrepreneurs in the East Midlands. Whether a business has already been set-up, or is still in the planning stages, the Next Generation Zone is a chance to showcase ideas to business owners, investors and potential partners.
The competition is open now and entrants will fall into two streams; New Business Ideas and Early Stage Business. Entrants into both streams are required to submit a filmed entry along with a further detailed description of their business concepts to their local university. Each education establishment will then select a finalist of their choice, before videos being uploaded to Venturefest East Midlands’ YouTube channel. Attendees at the event will also be able to hear from each of the shortlisted finalists, view the films and vote for their favourite using Venturefest East Midland’s interactive event app.

SEEM will be offering a prize of £500, which will be presented to the winner of the New Business Ideas stream, whilst entrants into the Early Stage Businesses stream will be up against each other to secure the prize funds of up to £1000 from Venturefest East Midlands.

Roger Moors, CEO of SEEM, commented:

“We’re delighted to be supporting the sponsorship of the New Business Ideas prize and look forward to seeing some great new ideas. Who knows where any one of those could lead; we could be looking back in the next few years at our next big East Midlands business.”

All the finalists will also become part of the Venturefest East Midlands Next Generation network, and will be promoted via the Venturefest East Midlands communication channels offering further and ongoing exposure.

Danny Singh, Business Development Officer at Nottingham Trent University, commented:

“This competition is a great opportunity for budding entrepreneurs to showcase their ideas and interact with business leaders. For those entrants who don’t make the final, the competition provides the chance for people to engage with their local university business incubation centre and learn about the range of support that is available for start-ups.”
