Five directors of firms in Chamber membership have reached the national finals of the Institute of Directors (IoD) 2017 Director of the Year awards.

Dr Nik Kotecha, Chief Executive Officer of Morningside Pharmaceuticals, Leicestershire, was named in June as the IoD East Midlands Director of the Year.

Praised by the judges for his vision of “making quality healthcare an affordable and accessible reality throughout the world”, Nik not only won the overall award but also the Corporate Responsibility and Large Company categories in the regional competition.

In the national awards he will be among 12 people competing for the Mid Market Director of the Year.

Fellow regional competitors in that category include:

  • Shahid Sheikh, Managing Director, Clifton Packaging Group, Leicester, who won both the International Award and the SME Medium Company regional categories. Judges said: "Shahid has shown excellent strategic awareness in spotting the export opportunities and has a well thought through process for identifying and assessing ethical and like-minded partners."

  • Alan Hardy, Chairman/Owner of Paragon Interiors Group, Nottinghamshire, who won the Mid Market regional category. Judges said they were impressed by "Alan's strong leadership across several very different businesses. He is highly-motivated to succeed and encourages his teams to be the same.” Alan operates several other businesses including the Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club, Bunker Mentality and is Chairman of Notts County Football Club.
  • Ron Lynch, IoD East Midlands Regional Director, said:“ We are very proud of our East Midlands finalists as they recognise excellence on the part of directors in region.
