Five directors of firms in Chamber membership have reached the national finals of the Institute of Directors (IoD) 2017 Director of the Year awards.
Dr Nik Kotecha, Chief Executive Officer of Morningside Pharmaceuticals, Leicestershire, was named in June as the IoD East Midlands Director of the Year.
Praised by the judges for his vision of “making quality healthcare an affordable and accessible reality throughout the world”, Nik not only won the overall award but also the Corporate Responsibility and Large Company categories in the regional competition.
In the national awards he will be among 12 people competing for the Mid Market Director of the Year.

Ron Lynch, IoD East Midlands Regional Director, said:“ We are very proud of our East Midlands finalists as they recognise excellence on the part of directors in region. Those who have done something special and achieved something very significant. All our entrants deserve praise for their achievements in a challenging business environment."
Matt Wheatcroft, Founder and Managing Director of Purpose Media, Derbyshire, a joint winner of the regional Young Director award, will be competing with ten others for the national Young Director award. The regional judges were impressed by Matt's “straightforward approach to business, which is all about delivering value to customers and proving that by showing them tangible results.”
Cameron Ford, Managing Director of Reflect Recruitment Group, Lincolnshire, who won the regional SME Small Business Award will compete with ten others for the national SME Company Director Award. Regional judges commented: “Cameron and his team operate a successful business in a very challenging recruitment sector, with very strong emphasis on an ethical approach to helping employers and those looking for work.”
Mike Hughes, Chief Executive of TwentyTwenty, Leicestershire , who won the Public/Third Sector regional category, now competes with 11 others for the national category title. Regional judges said that Mike had led TwentyTwenty in working with over 1,000 disadvantaged and disengaged young people. He was praised for his clear leadership and strategic positioning."
Winners will be announced during the awards finals at the London Lancaster Hotel on 22 September.
