Big House project – Temporary Business Engagement Advisor Contract

Location: Peripatetic: Contract will require working at the Creative Quarter offices, at business locations in the CQ and at satellite locations throughout the city.
Fee: Agreed day rate

Contract Purpose

Creative Quarter
We are looking to appoint an experienced Business Engagement Advisor on a temporary basis for a call off contract to provide short term interim cover on the Big House ERDF-funded business support project. The contract will run whilst we are in the process of recruiting a permanent Business Engagement Manager to fill
the place of the current postholder who is leaving.

Contract Duration: Temporary call off contract – by day rate – variable 2-3 days per week (to be agreed) for 2 months – but the timescale will be dependent on recruitment of the permanent postholder.

The role in the context of the Big House project: To support emerging and established businesses in the Creative Quarter as part of the Big House project and promote survival and growth in these businesses by:

a) Offering one-to-one consultations to people engaged in running a business to identify strengths, skills development areas, current stage of business growth and development needs.
b) Providing a range of business advice, coaching and support to people engaged in running a business;
c) Referral to other advisors and business mentors within the Big House project and to the Nottingham Growth Hub for support where appropriate. For start up and pre start up businesses to refer to other business support agencies and to sources of information and knowledge judged to be able to assist clients achieve their business aims.

Main Areas of Responsibility
1) Undertaking initial business diagnostics and preparing follow up action plan on early-years and more established businesses who have contacted the CQ via the Open Door as part of the Big House programme.
2) Providing face-to-face, telephone and/or email 1:1 business advice
3) Signposting to a range of support services and measures focussed on assisting the entrepreneur/entrepreneurial team to achieve their commercial objectives.
4) Providing a brokerage service for businesses to other partner provision within the Big House project. For start up and pre start up enterprises brokering other areas of support. Also where appropriate refer into the Nottingham Growth Hub.
5) Inputting activity onto the designated client relationship management systems.
6) Ensuring the delivery of outcomes, outputs, milestones and funding targets relating to the ERDF ‘Big House’ project and ensuring compliance with all funding requirements.

Experience Required
• Appropriate level of SFEDI Accreditation or similar
• Good experience and track-record of working with entrepreneurs to start, consolidate their business orbring about business growth
• Experience of delivering business support to the Creative and Digital and other technology based sectors.
• Experience of running own business within the private sector and understanding of business planning processes.
• Strong and active business networks and relationships useful to the business and business leaders
• Extensive knowledge of the national, regional and sub-regional business support and enterprise landscapes, combined with the ability to identify and develop interventions around business start-up and growth support
• A track record of achievement in securing funding and financing to support business start-up and growth

Selection
The successful contractor will be appointed by a selection process based on experience, references, cost, knowledge of the Creative and Digital sector, knowledge of the existing D2N2 business support networks and ability to start the contract immediately.

Reporting
The contractor will report to the Interim Manager of the Creative Quarter.
