Are you a budding social entrepreneur from a minority ethnic background, or someone with a business idea that will benefit the wider community and social housing residents? Join us for 10 training sessions and 9 month online support package.

What is this programme?

First Steps In Social Enterprise is free and open to existing and aspiring social entrepreneurs from BME (Black and Ethnic Minority) backgrounds.

First Steps in Social Enterprise is a business support programme featuring 10 training mentoring sessions and 9 month online support package. It is delivered by high quality experienced specialists. Designed for minority/migrant led or benefiting social enterprises, the programme helps to understand and map the mission critical areas of a business plan, engaging practical tools, legal and financial knowledge, and business theory. Successful applicants to the programme will work through the product, the market, the viability, human resources, profitability, delivery plan, quality assurance systems and social impact issues in a peer context.

The programme is designed to support aspiring social entrepreneurs’ ideas through a structured 12-week programme.

You can apply to the programme if you:

  • Are a sole trader, or have a skill and want to develop a business that benefits the community
  • Have a social enterprise idea / social enterprise at an early stage
  • Want to develop a social enterprise model from an existing community organisation
  • Are an entrepreneur that wants to develop a social enterprise
  • Are from a Black and Minority Ethnic background
  • Are working and/or living in Nottingham

First Steps includes:

  • 10 Saturdays full day training sessions (10a.m. – 4p.m.)
  • 9 months’ complimentary online package & moderated Facebook group
  • Live online training including masterclasses and Q and A
  • Online study places

Timeline:

  • Applications close March 15th
  • Interviews March 18th to 21st
  • 3-month programme runs March 23rd to June 15th
  • Online support runs to March 31st 2020
