Cyber security conference headline sponsor announced

The headline sponsor at this year’s East Midlands Cyber Security Conference in September will be Derby-based IT Consultancy RDS Global.

East Midlands Chamber, which organises the event, made the announcement today.

The conference will bring together digital specialists, businesses and policy makers to discuss practical ways firms can be more resilient to digital crime, thereby removing barriers to growth and creating an environment in which they, and the region as a whole, can flourish.

Chamber patron, RDS Global is a leading IT support and cyber security audit provider, supplying IT, technical service and support solutions that deliver best long term value and benefit to its 4,000 users in 200 locations across sectors which include automotive, retail, construction, care homes, hotel and hospitality, and professional services.

This year’s conference, which takes place at the Proact Stadium, Chesterfield, on Thursday 27 September, will focus on ‘digital risk’, where delegates will be encouraged to take a ‘360-degree’ look at their business, identify the areas in which they use IT and data and help them to determine their ‘digital risk appetite’.

By examining the consequences of fraud, breach or data loss in various business functions, delegates will be able to better assess the risks and consider what action they need to take to reduce or offset risk, just as they would for other risks to their business, such as regulation, fire or flood.

Through workshops, panel discussions, exhibitions and speakers, delegates will receive practical guidance to steer their thinking on cyber security from both a technical standpoint, as well as the necessary processes and governance to underpin it.

RDS Managing Director, Phil Harvey said, “RDS Global is delighted to sponsor the conference. We have a vested interest in making sure all businesses are cyber security aware and having previously exhibited at the conference we have first-hand experience of what an important platform this event is.”

Andy Watterson, the Chamber’s Business Crime Manager, said: “This is the third time the Chamber has hosted a cyber crime conference and this year’s promises to be the best one yet, with some great content from leaders in the industry.

“Having spoken to our members, many of them struggle to understand cyber security because they perceive it to be very complicated and don’t know where to start. So, rather than being a tech-driven event, our conference will focus on the key strategic and practical business decisions that our members need to take to protect themselves and recovery quickly should the now almost inevitable incident occur.

“By helping delegates to ‘digitally’ risk assess their business, we are hoping this will give them a clearer idea of where those risks lie, identify good practice and help them to understand how to be more resilient.”
