The Vision Derbyshire Business Start-Up Grant Scheme is available to:

  • Individuals at the pre-start stage, who intend to register a new business in eligible areas of Derbyshire*
  • Businesses already located in eligible areas of Derbyshire* that have been registered as trading for less than 12 months
  • New Social Enterprises are also eligible to apply where sustainable future income is proven

Businesses must be registered with Companies House or HMRC when an application is submitted and have an active bank account.

Grants of up to 50% of eligible costs are available. The maximum grant will be £10,000.

An additional grant of £5,000 may be available in exceptional circumstances, eg, where a start-up can demonstrate high growth potential after a 6 month period.

Small grants of up to £500 can be applied for with no matched funding required.

Eligible items include:

  • ICT infrastructure
  • Tools/ machinery/ equipment
  • Monitoring/ measuring apparatus
  • Websites, where they are a critical part of the business model
  • Marketing materials (business cards, brochures, etc)
  • Event stands and associated costs – travel
  • Relocation/ fit out costs (not moving transport costs)
  • Improving/ extending premises (subject to planning permission)
  • Specialised accredited training required to further develop the business

Activity that will not be eligible include essential running costs (statutory obligations, utility bills, wages/ salaries, overheads, insurance, tax, basic standard IT, stock/ consumables), feasibility studies/ planning applications, professional fees, training that is a statutory requirement, radio/ vehicle/ newspaper advertising and vehicles and other mobile infrastructure.

No retrospective claims for items paid before project commencement will be considered. The business will be required to pay the supplier for the full cost of the project before claiming the grant element. Therefore, funds must be in place to cover these costs prior to submitting the application.

*Eligible areas of Derbyshire for Vision Derbyshire support are: Amber Valley, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Dales, High Peak, North East Derbyshire and South Derbyshire.

Potential applicants based in Derby City will be covered by Accelerator; Erewash Partnership support businesses in the Erewash Borough Council area and Bolsover District Council provide direct support.
