Host: D2N2 Growth Hub
Location: Online - Webinar
Date: Thursday, 17th December 2020 at 10.00am - 12.00pm
This webinar is hosted by the D2N2 Growth Hub, East Midlands Chamber and part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
Respect, dignity and the right to feel valued and included should be a given in a modern day society and within the workplace. Few would argue that a sense of belonging is something which most of us strive for, and have the right to expect at work. Yet sometimes this eludes us, simply on the basis of differences, many of which are outside of our control.
We live in a world where difference should be celebrated, after-all it is the differences that make us all unique. However it is also the thing that sets us apart from others and human nature often leads us to be suspicious of, or fear individuals, situations or circumstances with which we are unfamiliar.
In this webinar we will strengthen participants’ understanding of what inclusivity means and how each and every one of us can learn to be more alert to subtle forms of discrimination or where barriers or practices prevent groups or individuals from feeling fully included. We will explore the science behind our reactions to differences; learn how to question our own belief sets and how, through increasing our knowledge we can overcome our tendency to label and categorise.
By learning more, we can fear less. The webinar will provide participants with a greater understanding of the issues surrounding diversity and equality, encouraging them to challenge their own biases and prejudices (even those they don’t even know they have).
This webinar will cover:
Understanding the terminology : Diversity, Inclusivity, Bias, etc.
Differences – what makes us unique and the different forms of prejudice.
Understanding the science
Bias – categorising and labelling including stereo types
Unconscious bias – what it is and how to uncover it
Attitudes, values and beliefs – challenging your own perceptions and habits
The concept of tribes and how this affects our behaviours and exposure
Practical examples of how to become more inclusive and challenge your own thinking
Anyone who wishes to learn more about diversity and inclusion for their own development, or to raise awareness within their organisation.
