What is the workshop about?

The workshop aims to answer a number of common questions about accounting and finance, including:

  • Why is financial management important?
  • What is the difference between financial accounting and management accounting?
  • How does this fit in with planning and budgeting?

What will I learn?

This session aims to demystify the jargon and the perceived complexity of the finance function within a business. We will consider the role of financial management tools and techniques to help you make sound decisions within your organisation. 

Decision-making is about choice and alternatives. However the various options we are faced with, each have different risk profiles. During the session you will learn how management accounting can help to measure and evaluate risks, supporting you in making the best decisions for your organisation.

Is my organisation eligible to participate?

To participate, you must work for an organisation that meets the following funding criteria:

  • Part of the automotive, aerospace or rail sector supply chains (not however part of the financial services sector)
  • Based in Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire
  • Fewer than 250 employees
  • No more than 25 per cent owned by a large company (i.e. a company that is not an SME)
  • Turnover of less than 50 million euros and/or annual balance sheet less than 49 million euros
