About the course
Andy Dean, Interim Managing Director SWIFt (Smart Wireless Innovation Facility) will present details about the SWIFt facility and how it aims to help companies accelerate their digital technology based projects, though offering a test bed facility, comprising a digital networks infrastructure with 5G and LoRaWAN. The SWIFt centre also has product development facilities for designing, building and testing digital technologies and services and a showcase area for demonstrations.
Andy will then present details regarding a ‘competition’ for space on demonstrator podiums, aimed at companies that have a partially or fully developed a digital technology related product or a service that can be demonstrated through prototypes, videos or working demonstrators. This will enable companies to promote their technologies and have free access to SWIFt and its facilities for a period of time.
About Andy Dean
Andy's career started in the polymers manufacturing sector, developing new products based on customer requirements. This led on to commercial roles as Technical Sales Engineer through to European Sales Manager at AlphaGary Ltd.
He then moved away from manufacturing into contract research & development, heading up a team, then a division at Pera Technology developing products privately funded by companies, as well as grant funded through mechanisms like Horizon 2020 and Innovate UK.
In 2015 he set up my own Consultancy business, aimed at helping companies to diversify and do new things, which often incorporates new product development and commercialisation strategies.
In 2016 Andy started working with NTU on some key diversification projects, as a part of its strategy to increase research with impact. This included the setting up of its Medical Technologies Innovation Facility (MTIF) and more recently Smart Campus and the Smart Wireless Innovation Facility (SWIFt).
