The pharmaceutical sector continues to face significant challenges. The COVID pandemic served to further exacerbate supply chain issues that not only carry a profit cost but also a human one i.e. essential medications used daily in emergency departments and outpatients continue to be in short supply. The digital era and the expectations it places on suppliers continues to exert pressure on systems investment, as does big data and the need to collect, analyse, and secure lots of it. Then like several other UK sectors the pharmaceutical industry has for many years experienced a shortage of qualified professionals.
Meanwhile, the healthcare sector, to which the pharmaceutical sector is linked, continues to be dogged by persistent inequalities in health outcomes, chronic underfunding of health and social care, a growing waiting list for elective care, and lower levels of doctors and nurses than most other high-income countries.
In this webinar, delivered by Andrea Collins of Global Trade Department, we explore the issues ahead for both of these critically important sectors, including the embedding of the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement, the EU’s planned legislation changes and the risk of UK/EU regulatory divergence, the much-anticipated UK-India Free Trade Agreement, and of course pressures to reduce the environmental impact of products. The webinar will last 60 minutes and there will be time for Q&A, so please bring your questions.
