This course aims to build confidence by introducing the essentials of finance.
We start by explaining the need to keep accurate records, the difference between cash and accrual methods. We then introduce the familiar maxim that sales are vanity, profit is sanity, and cash is king. A business will only succeed if its numbers add up, so we look at cashflow forecasting (including credit control) as an essential way of ensuring the long term sustainability of the business.
We turn to one of the most important decisions a business can make – pricing – and how most firms get it wrong by focusing on cost rather than value. We explore the danger of discounts and the difference between ‘differentiating’ and ‘discriminating’ on price. We then move on to psychology, learning how to create value with price by discussing real world examples where this happens – and, crucially, the effect on your brand.
The course ends with an astonishing conclusion: could you sell more by raising your prices?
There will be a light buffet lunch after this session where you can network with other businesses and the team. Why not stay for the day and attend our Grant Writing Workshop in the afternoon!
