The Accessibility Champion programme aims to create an ‘in-house’ accessibility resource for your organisation.

Are you ready? As a visitor economy business, do you feel ready to provide the information, facilities and services that will help you to maximise your share of this lucrative, growing market and play your part in its growth? If not, then this programme is for you!

The Accessibility Champion programme aims to create an ‘in-house’ accessibility resource for your organisation, this workshop is aimed at all Visitor Economy and hospitality businesses.

This ground-breaking programme delivered over 2 days, provides an insight into the barriers faced by visitors with additional access needs and provides practical tips as to how these may be overcome.

What’s covered:

Session 1:

Introduction to Accessible Tourism
Understanding access needs
Visitors who are Deaf or have hearing loss, visitors who are blind or have sight loss
Visitors with mobility impairment and Changing Places

Session 2:

Understanding access needs; visitors with autism and visitors with dementia
Marketing your Accessibility

What outcomes will be achieved?

Understand the barriers faced by disabled people and how to help overcome them
Carry out a simple accessibility audit of your site
Produce a Sensory Story for your venue
Design an effective Touch Tour
Create an on-line accessibility guide for your venue
Market the accessibility of your venue locally and nationally
Have increased your confidence in creating a warm welcome for all!

Eligibility:

Workshops are open to start-up and established small to medium sized enterprises located in the following local authority areas taking part in the East Midlands Chamber's Accelerator project:

Amber Valley; Ashfield; Bassetlaw; Broxtowe; Chesterfield; Derby; Derbyshire Dales; Erewash; Gedling; High Peak; Leicester City; Mansfield; Newark & Sherwood; North East Derbyshire; Nottingham; Rushcliffe; South Derbyshire.

(Please note: Businesses based in districts not participating in the Accelerator project i.e. Bolsover; Leicestershire) may attend providing they are members of East Midlands Chamber. In such instances, please contact Hannah Kerridge on 07741163242 if you need to discuss your booking.

The Accelerator project delivers online webinars and full-day workshops. The webinars are designed as one-hour taster sessions and the workshops as full-day training sessions which are designed to provide delegates with an actionable plan and strategy.
