Meeting Independent Buyers and Preparing for Trade Shows

The Food and Drink Forum are delighted to work on behalf of Marketing Peak District and Derbyshire (MPDD) to offer Derbyshire food and drink producers and visitor economy businesses the opportunity to attend this fully funded course to help you grow and develop your businesses through the amazing food and drink products produced.

Approaching and meeting independent buyers for the first time can be so daunting, even if you are fully aware of how amazing your food products are, this session delivered by Marcus Carter from the Artisan Food Club will take you through meeting independent buyers and also preparing for trade shows.

Trade shows can work out to be very expensive if you attend for 2, 3 or 4 days and go home with no enquiries and no orders. Knowing how to stop people as they walk past and converting them into a customers is a simple set of actions you need to learn then practice. That’s what this session is all about!

Aims and Objectives

How to make a pitch

1. Setting up your approach Getting yourself prepare making the first call or visit count making sure your price list is working for you

2. Stepping into the buyers shoes - Understanding what the buyer would like to hear, reading responses as you pitch and maximising your chances of closing the sales

Trade Shows

What you’ll learn about:

1. How to convert a visitor to the stand into a customer and avoid time, killer questions to sort the wheat from the chaff and building your confidence with ending conversations

2. Setting up your show offers and making your enquiry form work for you, making your offer compelling and getting the information you need to close the deal

3. Understand trial closing and making sure your customers find you, set up and follow up are things you need to master when you are parting with money to attend a trade show or exhibition

Who Should Attend?

Food and drink producers that are wishing to trade with small independent retailers and who benefit from attending trade shows.

Event Details

No of places available: 12

Cost: Fully funded, (non attendance maybe charged)

Timings: 9.30/10.00 - 3.00

Refreshments: Tea, coffee will be provided

Please remember that if you cannot attend the event you must cancel 48 hours prior to the event through Eventbrite, otherwise we may have to charge in full for your place.

Fully funded by ERDF funding in partnership with Marketing Peak District and Derbyshire.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for funding your business must be:

A visitor economy(accommodation, attraction, activity provider, food and drink provider etc) or a food and drink producer (supply chain)

Based in Derbyshire (and their supply chain)

Be an SME (less than 250 FTE employees, have a balance sheet of less than €43m and/or turnover of less than €50m and not be more than 25% owned by another business that is not an SME

12 hours of business support is available at no cost for qualifying businesses thanks to the project funding. If you wish to attend more than 12 hours of workshops then you may be charged at the commercial rate, however, if you are a member of Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire, there is no limit of events you can attend.
