Description

Join ICAEW members and SME's at a breakfast designed to get small and medium sized business owners and directors in a room with funders. The funders will be representing the Midlands Engine Investment Fund (MEIF) set up by the UK Government through the British Business Bank (BBB).

Each of the MEIF Fund Managers will give a a short synopsis on their respective funds, covering both debt and equity funding, and will include a discussion with a successful case study speaking on their experiences and challenges whilst going through the investment process.

To close the breakfast we will have a round table discussion session where delegates will have the opportunity to ask questions (both ways) with the Fund Managers about what challenges they have personally experienced.

The event is free of charge and open to members and non-members.

Speakers

Neil Millington, Loan Fund Manager, Enterprise Loans East Midlands

Neil is the Loan Fund Manager at Enterprise Loans East Midlands having previously worked for Lloyds Banking Group for almost 30 years. He initially joined the company as Due Diligence officer in 2010 before taking up his current post in January 2013. Neil has been instrumental in the growth of the lending portfolio for this regionally based organisation which is the largest Responsible Finance provider in the East and South East Midlands.

Jonathan Lowe, Investment Director, Maven Capital Partners

Based in Nottingham, Jonathan leads Maven’s MEIF team for East & South East Midlands, with responsibility for delivering new investments and portfolio management of existing MEIF holdings.
Jonathan joined Maven in 2017 having spent his career in SME equity investment, finance and banking, primarily in and around the East Midlands. Most recently Jonathan was an Investment Director and Head of Investor Relations at Catapult Ventures. He had previously worked as a Portfolio Director at Capital for Enterprise Ltd, and spent nine years as Head of Business Investment at East Midlands Development Agency, where he led the development of new loan and equity funds and the delivery of two major SME grant programmes. Jonathan began his career at NatWest in Nottingham, where he managed head office credit teams and was a business relationship manager.

Sandy Reid, Investment Manager, Mercia Fund Managers  

Sandy initially joined Mercia Fund Managers as an Investment Manager in the Universities Team in the North of England but has now assumed responsibility for the East and South East Midlands as part of the MEIF team. Prior to joining the Group, Sandy was CEO of a spin-out company for 8 years and has worked both with and within university technology transfer. In addition she has sat on a number of boards as both an NED and observer. Sandy holds a PhD in chemistry and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Ray Harris, Fund Principal, Foresight Group

Ray joined Foresight Group in April 2018 and currently works as the Principal of the MEIF (Midlands Engine Investment Fund) in the Nottingham, Leicester and Milton Keynes offices (primarily Nottingham). He has over 20 years of both Corporate Finance and Private Equity experience. Ray is responsible for all the investments in the MEIF, a Midlands focussed investment fund investing up to £2m of equity . Prior to joining Foresight, Ray worked at Odyssey Corporate Finance as a Director where he focussed on Corporate Finance deals (MBO, Company sales, Refinances, Investments etc) in the £1-75m range. Previously Ray has been involved in, and latterly ran, two other regional venture capital funds at Catapult Venture Managers.
Ray holds a first class degree in Economics & Statistics from UEA (University of East Anglia).
