Is your business within the Transport and Logistics Sector?

In the D2N2 area we have a wide range of businesses that are within the Transport and Logistics sector. These businesses are all involved in movement of goods across the UK and internationally by land, air and water. This sector employs over 28,000 people and is one of the key priority sectors that we have identified for growth.

As part of the D2N2 LEP growth plan a Transport and Logistics Sector Strategy and action plan has been developed. The Strategy was developed by the Institute of Couriers and aims to help D2N2 use the funding it has available to support local business and grow the economic impact of the D2N2 transport and logistics industry.

To be successful we are encouraging businesses, business support organisations, local universities and colleges and others to come forward to work together on deliverable programmes to meet that ambition.

This Strategy and Action Plan is structured around the themes of the D2N2 Strategic Economic Plan and therefore deals with:

  • Business Support and Access to Finance
  • Supporting the Transport & Logistics Industry
  • Innovation, Knowledge Transfer
  • Productivity and the Low Carbon Agenda

Over the year we plan to share some news from this sector that will be useful for businesses across the D2N2 area. This month we wanted to let you know about a survey that is being run to collect more information about what you as logisticians believe are the issues of final mile in the e-retail shift of shopping from high street to home delivery.

The IOC was exhibiting at the Multi Modal NEC Trade Show last month. At the event they were able to gather more information for the survey. They had an amazing uptake of more than six thousand responses to the survey over the three-day period.

Some of the initial responses show that:

  • Logisticians rarely click and collect
  • Only 25% believe cost of delivery is very important
  • 30% believe speed is very important.

However it’s not too late to have your say in the final mile answers. To take part in the survey CLICK HERE
