‘Energy for Business’ scheme helps local businesses make the low-carbon leap

A project which helps local businesses that want to develop low-carbon solutions, has been awarded funding to support SMEs in the region for another three years.

Access to local finance for businesses

Whether you are a new business or an existing business there may be times when you need to access finance to help with growth. It’s worth having a look at any grants that are available locally.

We wanted to share with you some examples of where you can access local finance. All these have one thing in common they want to support businesses to grow. Grants are available for different reasons, sometimes to help with technology and innovation and others to support growth of your workforce.

Apprenticeship Grants

The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) Apprenticeship Grant for Employers - AGE (Apprenticeship Grant for Employers) 16 to 24 offers a £1500 grant per apprentice to employers. Some Local Authorities in the D2N2 Area offer additional financial support for apprentices, subject to availability, including Derby City, Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire County Council, Ashfield and Mansfield District Councils and Gedling Borough Council. Broadband Connection Voucher Scheme

Your business can get a connection voucher of up to £3,000 for faster, better broadband through the Government’s Broadband Connection Voucher Scheme. The scheme is active in 50 cities across the UK, including Derby, Chesterfield and Nottingham.

Capital Investment and Job Creation

There are currently schemes in the D2N2 Area that may contribute to your investment plans if you are planning to create new jobs. These include the Invest to Grow scheme managed by the University of Derby, Nottinghamshire County Council’s Economic Development Capital Fund and the Derby Enterprise Growth Fund.

Future developments

New schemes on the horizon include the N2 Business Growth Programme and for businesses in qualifying rural areas funding from the European Agricultural Fund for rural development (EAFRD) and ‘LEADER’ funding.
