5 top tips to boost your online presence using social media

Social media

Love it or hate it, there’s no avoiding social media anymore. These free online digital marketing services can really help you reach new customers, find new contacts, and spread the word about what you do to thousands of potential clients.

But if you’ve never used Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn to promote yourself or your business, the idea of starting can be a scary thought. By slowly developing a voice for your business, people will start to see who you are, what you do, and find why they should work with you.

1. Show you are approachable

If your social media is not updated regularly and filled with hashtags and spam links, people will not interact with them. Statuses need to be done by people and not robots to show you have taken the care to market your business properly, and to prevent errors such as spelling mistakes and broken links from being published to your audience.

By tweeting a mixture of content, images and videos, as well as sharing relevant industry news and comment pieces, your brand will really stand out as knowledgeable and reliable. Potential customers and clients will trust and recommend your service, and be able to approach you for help.

2. Build yourself a reputation

Your social media can either be really formal or really informal, depending on the approach you wish to take. By regularly Tweeting and posting Facebook statuses, people will start to see your business attitude and ethos. The balance between posting fun things when it is someone’s birthday, as well as serious things like a news article you have featured in or commented on can be achieved at the same time, and will help portray your business to be as welcoming as possible.

Make yourself seem approachable, friendly and willing to help and people will talk to you. Even if you Tweet “Can we help anyone with any advice?”, someone will reply looking for guidance, and will be grateful of your answer.

3. Share industry news

Commenting on industry news and releasing blogs on current trends and techniques will really portray you as a strong market leader. Showing that you take time to read articles on your industry indicates you are keen to learn more about what you do, keep on top of changes that may affect you and the way you work, and that you are genuinely interested in news about your passion and business.

4. Share customer reviews

Redirecting people to your website. It is a great place for them to find testimonials and reviews from previous customers that help build your business’ reputation. Reading comments and experiences from people that have used your service before will help build your image as a trustworthy and reliable service provider, and will encourage people to use you over your competitors. By sharing these reviews on social media in the forms of images, video links, or just plain text, it will show people you value their time it took to post the review, that your testimonials are from real people, and will also help you reach more people than just those who are visiting your website. Encouraging people to ‘read more’ on your website will again help drive traffic to your site, and get people to spend more time on it learning about what you do.

5. Drive people back to your website

People don’t want to read a lot on social media. Large chunks of text won’t make people interact with your content. Sharing images, videos, questions and other engaging content such as offers and infographics will help with gaining likes and comments on your posts, but by redirecting people to your website will allow them to find more text and information about what you do, maybe even discover services they did not expect from your company.

By having a website that is up to date, easy to use and fun to spend time on, people will browse pages, sign up for newsletters and share your content. Break text up with images, headings and colours to point people in the direction of your services, about us pages and contact pages to boost interaction once they have followed your link from social media. Keep your content engaging to keep visitors on your site, but keep your social media posts short to redirect them there in the first place.

If you struggle with your website, you can always enlist the help of an agency. Their expertise and passion for the industry will help your website stand out from the rest, and make your business shine.

Although it may seem a very time consuming job, it is one that will see your business reap the rewards nonetheless. Social media marketing will cost you nothing but your time and dedication, and you will get out of it what you put into it. Building your online presence can be achieved by shouting about what you do, interacting with current and potential clients, and proving that your employees can be trusted and are good at what they do.

Marketing yourself in a friendly and approachable way will make people feel like they will receive a personal, high quality service when they work with you. Don’t be afraid to give your business a voice and personality, as people are always looking to work with someone they can talk and relate to.
