The Economic Growth Service is supporting SME's to expand, attracting companies to the city and ensuring that resident's skills match workforce needs.
The Service is helping to shape post-pandemic economic recovery and helping to create a diverse, inclusive economy in Derby
As part of this we have three fundamental pillars:
• Acting as strategic enablers of the ‘wider drivers of growth’, creating an optimum environment for economic growth
• Supporting and strengthening the existing business base and specialisms/sectors
• Diversifying and broadening the economy
This exciting role will support these overall objectives by ensuring the promotion, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of the business support programmes within Economic Growth, ensuring we understand the needs of SME’s and their barriers to growth.
A key focus will be on our flagship Ascend programme which is a Derby City Council funded £5m business growth scheme that delivers Derby scale up companies the investment, specialist advisors and expert business support networks needed to help them grow faster.
Reporting to the Principal Economic Growth Manager you will lead a small officer team that advises applicants, appraises applications, makes recommendations to an Investment Panel, manages our due diligence and contracting procedure and oversees the monitoring of the schemes.
We need someone offering, amongst other things, the following key attributes:
• a background in business finance with a banking or accountancy degree-level qualification (or comparable experience)
• sound commercial acumen allied to an exceptional analytical brain
• the passion to help local businesses grow and prosper.
The City Council operates from a superb city centre building. Officers enjoy an excellent relationship with our Councillors. Partnerships in Derby aren't forced or synthetic. The city knows where it wants to go and has the means to get there. The Economic Growth service is motivated, passionate and hungry for success.
The salary on offer would normally commence at the bottom of the range and would be subject to annual increments to the upper figure.
