Employ Local

EMPLOY Local is an SFA ESF funded business support programme and enables DBC Training to support local businesses, to access and recruit local individuals.

EMPLOY Local works as part of the wider business support services available through the Growth Hub. It enables employers to develop and grow by removing the barrier of recruitment difficulties. DBC provides access specialist recruitment support, including pre-employment training, to prepare and upskill candidates 16+ to meet business requirements and be productive from Day 1.

Support is available across the whole of D2N2. Over 18 months, EMPLOY Local will support approximately 3,000 individuals who are looking for work and connect them with approximately 600 local businesses who need to take on staff.

The Main Aims of Employ Local

  • Improving the employability and transferable skills of unemployed, inactive and disadvantaged people; by offering participants advice on vacancies, job search, CV writing and interview techniques etc
  • Responding flexibly to employer demand in local labour markets where specific needs are identified
  • Providing a single point of contact for employers by providing a candidate matching service
  • Provide employers with a selection of suitable candidates for each vacancy and any other support related to the recruitment process as required by the employer including Sector Based Work Academies
  • Offer advice and guidance on incentives

For Employers

DBC Training will consult with each business and design a recruitment pathway bespoke to the employers’ needs. Business support is as much or as little as the employer requires and includes:

  • Single point of contact
  • A full recruitment service – we match and fill candidates to your requirements
  • Bespoke advertising and promotion of your vacancies
  • Development of job descriptions and eligibility requirements
  • Hosting recruitment events, selection days and assessment centres and interviews
  • Thorough vetting process to ensure the right quality of candidates
  • Pre-employment training
  • Support and guidance to access ongoing workforce training and development

For Individuals

For individuals who are out of work and looking to get into employment, EMPLOY Local will help you to:

  • Connect with employers
  • DBC is working with a number of employers with regular and multiple vacancies who want to recruit local people. We can help you to access these vacancies and/or to target additional employers or live vacancies which you have identified independently or with our support.

  • One-to-one careers advice and guidance to identify what you'd like to do
  • Job search tools and assistance
  • Professional CV & cover letter support
  • Help accessing, understanding and completing job application methods

We support you with

  • Interview techniques
  • Time management skills
  • Rights and responsibilities in the workplace
  • And anything else to help you back to work.

Developing skills

We offer a wide range of training to help you into work. Our training is based on key skills and/or qualifications requested by employers in job descriptions, such as:

Office based skills, including:
Sage Accounts, Real Time Payroll, Legal and Medical Secretarial courses
Basic Book Keeping, Audio/Touch typing, Microsoft Office – from beginners to advanced

Sector specific training, including:
CSCS Training & Card, SIA Training & CardBeauty, Hospitality & Catering
Call Centre, Retail, Customer Service, Food Manufacturing
